Job Description:

Calling all trade worshipers, quick thinkers, problem solvers, and ambitious, driven engineers. We're looking for top-notch technologists who wish to be fully engaged in the success of a leading asset management firm. Get involved in the profitability of an enviably successful, brilliant team!

Here's the Opportunity:

Our client – a proprietary quantitative investment manager – is seeking a highly-talented, operationally-brilliant individual with excellent problem-solving and critical thinking skills to join their Trading Desk Monitoring team.

The monitoring role is critical for their algorithmic trading business. The team takes collective responsibility and ownership for the daily, successful operation of our client's trading systems and trading infrastructure. A significant aspect of the role is responding in real-time to the output of their alerting and trading technology, looking for irregularities or unusual activity which might be indicative of a problem. The team seeks to fix as many problems directly as possible. Strong, broad technical knowledge, proficiency in scripting languages such as Perl and Python, and the desire to manage and understand a highly complex environment are essential.

Successful candidates relish the urgency required in the real-time monitoring aspect as well as the opportunity to develop expertise in complex systems monitoring as a discipline. This role offers a tremendous opportunity to be at the epicenter of the operations of a successful, sophisticated investment manager, gaining broad knowledge of technology, trading, and the investment management landscape.

Our client's team structure is unique, with researchers, technologists, trading operations, and system engineers working closely together within the Firm. Their researchers develop trading models through rigorous research, their technologists create the systems on which these models run, and the role of monitoring is to ensure the smooth execution of the models. Operators in monitoring need to maintain close relationships with their global teammates as well as with many internal and external groups including brokers and other counterparties.

Our client is a fun and collaborative community of tech geeks, science fiction fans, Lord of the Rings aficionados, musicians, martial artists, extreme-sports enthusiasts and foodies who enjoy a non-hierarchical, professional environment. Their culture encourages and expects significant contribution from all members.

Here's Where You Come In:
  • Ensure that all automated trading engines are working as expected
  • Monitor exchange connectivity
  • Solve real-time trading issues expediently; make rapid situation assessments
  • Handle constant interruptions while following through on priority tasks
  • Evaluate, gather requirements for, and if needed, contribute to the design of new reporting tools and applications for diagnostics, reporting and analysis
  • Maintain and improve various scripts/tools, as well as write new ones
  • Explore, propose and implement ideas to improve the efficiency of the desk
  • Monitor servers, networks and other technical infrastructure for availability and capacity issues
  • Perform root cause analysis of issues and problem-manage long term solutions
  • Manage first line of defense troubleshooting of a complex environment
What Will You Need?
  • Exceptional trouble-shooting and problem-solving skills
  • Understanding of complex systems
  • Demonstrated ability to improve procedures and operational processes
  • The ability to work collaboratively
  • The ability to manage time effectively, set priorities and meet deadlines
  • A self-driven and highly-motivated employee attitude with the ability to adapt to change
  • Detail-orientation and precision in all tasks
  • The ability to think creatively and implement effective solutions
  • Clear, succinct communication both verbally and in writing
  • Programming and scripting ability in Perl or Python, or a strong desire to learn how to program in these and other languages
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Mathematics or other analytical field

All qualified candidates are encouraged to apply by submitting their resume as an MS word document including a cover letter with a summary of relevant qualifications, highlighting clearly any special or relevant experience.

Please Note: All inquiries will be treated with the utmost confidentiality. Your resume will not be submitted to any client company without your prior knowledge and consent.
