Our client is a prestigious a multi-strategy sector-focused hedge fund with a focus primarily on long/short U.S. equities headquartered in Midtown Manhattan. The firm was started in 1986 and employs approximately 45 investment professionals who provide coverage of major industry sectors, markets and financial instruments.



We are looking to hire a Web Data Analyst to join our team. The successful candidate will work directly for a Portfolio Manager and perform data extraction from major websites, public datasets, and subscription services to help identify trends and spot investment opportunities. The Web Data Analyst will be responsible for all aspects of the data analytics process and will be tasked with building an scalable framework for data collection, extraction, reporting, and analysis.


Successful candidates will need to:

  • Design and implement a web scraping system to crawl, extract and ingest data using common web scraping tools or APIs.
  • Catalog and manage datasets using SQL and NoSQL databases on private or public cloud platforms
  • Perform ad-hoc analysis to answer specific questions
  • Develop and produce reports to help identify trends and inform investment decisions
  • Understand how to translate high level investment research questions into tasks and specifications to accomplish the goal



  • 3-5 years of experience using web scraping tools such as Scrapy, BeautifulSoup, Selenium, or cURL,
  • 3-5 years of experience using programming languages and libraries such as Python, pandas, numpy, matplotlib or R
  • Experience with data analysis and reporting, including visualization tools such as Tableau
  • Bachelor's Degree required, preference for Computer Science, Statistics, or Business Analytics (3.5+ GPA preferred)
  • Preference for working knowledge of written Chinese for conducting analysis of Chinese language websites
  • Experience in financial services / asset management preferred
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills, persistence and a strong sense of urgency
  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate and articulate ideas
  • Team player with the highest standards of integrity, honesty and mutual consideration
  • Strong technical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, ability to think creatively
  • Ability to focus, work effectively under pressure and follow instructions
  • A drive for results reflecting an ownership mentality
