Our client, a leading streaming media giant, is looking for a bright Java developer to join their rapidly-growing digital media group. This team 
enables the media workflows using creative and pragmatic technology solutions. We are a software engineering group that develops and supports applications and workflows that ingest media assets as they show up at our doors and run it through the media supply chain by processing, managing, transforming and delivering the assets to all affiliates and partners.

You will work with file and asset management systems and develop diverse solutions to interact and manage these systems, integrating them into our workflows using the latest technologies.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Design and develop architecturally sound applications for digital media workflow and automation solutions as well as implement and integrate third-party software packages.

·         Partner with project managers and other engineering teams to understand requirements, evaluate and recommend strategic solutions.

·         Help plan, initiate, and effect changes to the future-state architecture and technical stack of applications.

·         Research digital media standards and file-formats to guide future media engineering decisions and system design.

·         Provide support to linear/On Demand/derivative systems, with occasional 24/7 availability rotating among other group members.

 REQUIREMENTS:

  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other equivalent technical degree.
  • 5+ years’ experience with Java.
  • Must be familiar with Java EE 5+ and have experience implementing service- or message-oriented systems.
  • Knowledge of SOA-based protocols such as SOAP, REST or other RPC
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Familiarity with video containers and codecs used in broadcast and streaming technologies is a plus

·         Experience with BPM/orchestration and workflow frameworks such as Activiti and jBPM is a plus

  • Development tools such as GIT/Subversion, Maven, JUnit, Bamboo, and JIRA

Position requires after-hours support.

  • Design and develop software for digital media workflow and automation solutions.
  • Implement software tools and services that transcode/transwrap digital media assets.
  • Implement interactive or automated solutions to analyze digital content for conformance or troubleshooting
  • Research digital media standards and file-formats to guide future media engineering decisions and system design.
  • Qualify and validate third-party libraries and tools that directly manipulate digital media assets.
  • Design and implement software solutions that extract, or embed, metadata into digital media assets.
  • Integrate with third-party media management and transcoding systems.
  • Provide support to linear/OD/derivative systems, with occasional 24/7 availability rotating among other group members.
  • Remain current with the latest developments in digital video and media.


PRIMARY REQUIREMENTS:

  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or other equivalent technical degree.
  • 4-5+ years’ experience with Java.
  • Must be familiar with Java EE 5+ and have experience implementing service- or message-orientOAPed systems.
  • Knowledge of SOA-based protocols such as SOAP, REST or other RPC.
  • Must be familiar with computer networking, RDBM systems.
  • Position requires 24/7 on-call support and may involve travel.

  
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with the Material Exchange Format (MXF), GXF
  • Familiarity with industry standards from organizations such as SMPTE, FIMS and AMWA.
  • Experience with BPM/orchestration and workflow frameworks such as Activiti and jBPM
  • 3+ years’ experience with C/C++.
  • Ruby, Python or similar scripting experience.
  • Experience with Java Swing/Java FX is a plus.
  • Familiarity with video containers and codecs used in broadcast and streaming technologies.
  • Excellent communications skills
  • Familiarity with DRM-based solutions used in streaming technologies
  • Knowledge of digital media production including audio and video transcoding.
