Our client, a leading streaming media giant, is looking for a Senior Systems Engineer to join their rapidly-growing digital media group.

POSITION SUMMARY

As a Senior Systems Engineer in the Media Infrastructure Technology group, you will be involved in designing and maintaining computer systems which enable Studio and Broadcast Production workflows.  These workflows center on the creation, editing and end processing for delivery of broadcast and distribution-ready media assets.  Using COTS systems and integrating hardware with internally developed software, solutions will be architected to meet the requirements of production operations working across many departments. The Senior Systems Engineer will bring a high level of Unix/Linux expertise and will have ideally worked with digital video and transcoding in a broadcast environment.  In addition, a thorough understanding of server hardware and OS architecture, advanced networking and advanced storage solutions is necessary in this role.  This position is based out of our Hauppauge location on Long Island but also involves support of systems across various US locations.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES 

·         Designs end-to-end systems based on technical requirements provided by application and systems engineers

·         Responsible for the management of existing systems that support the companies various workflows, including transcoding systems and file distribution services (Aspera)

·         Deploys, manages and maintains Linux, Windows and Solaris based hardware

·         Deploys, manages and maintains virtualized hosts using VMWare and VMWare toolsets

·         Troubleshoots issues with systems (hardware) and operating systems (software) for rapid response to the business units; accepts ownership for system issues and seeks timely resolution

·         Collaborates with system, storage, network and database engineers to ensure software is performing correctly

·         Configures and manages monitoring tools that are owned by the Media Infrastructure Technology (MIT) group for various teams; leads integrations for any monitoring applications, dashboards etc., with existing monitoring tool set

·         Takes a leadership role in scripting solutions for MIT; uses data analytics tools, such as Tableau & Splunk, for capacity planning and metrics

·         Participates in all application integration design sessions

 

REQUIREMENTS

·         Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or computer science discipline or equivalent experience is required

·         Candidate must have at least 5 years of experience in Linux systems administration within an enterprise class datacenter. Background in Windows, Solaris and Mac OS a plus

·         Candidate will have architected and maintained numerous end-to-end systems composed of server hardware, OS, advanced networking and storage providing high performance and robust application platforms

·         Expert level knowledge of UNIX/Linux kernel and OS architecture accompanied with advanced UNIX/Linux administration skills

·         Experience with Cisco UCS

·         Demonstrated experience with programming languages including Python, Ruby, Perl, Shell/Bash/SED/AWK; Java, C, C++ programing is also desirable

·         Demonstrated experience using Ansible to automate processes in a production environment

·         Experience with Aspera Enterprise, Aspera  Faspex, Aspera Console and Aspera Orchestrator

·         Experience with the configuration and administration of Splunk

·         Ability to analyze, optimize and troubleshoot system performance of Linux and Window servers

·         Support of MySQL database systems on various platforms

·         Possesses general knowledge of networking skills; understands SNMP monitoring and implementation

·         Knowledge of VMWare a plus

·         Knowledge of Veeam, Active Directory and LDAP a plus

·         Knowledge of storage technologies (SAN/NAS) a plus

·         Knowledge of digital video and video transcoding a plus

·         The candidate must have excellent communications skills in order to be successful

·         Ability to organize information and produce technical and operational documentation

·         Work experience in video broadcasting environment is desirable

·         Position requires after hours support
