Job Description:


The successful candidate must be a subject matter expert in extending a firm’s on premise compute infrastructure to a cloud-style service, instantiating services, and incorporating the offering within an existing service catalog. The candidate must have in depth hands-on experience with a wide range of computing platforms, enterprise core services, and public cloud providers.  The role will be primarily focused on design, configuration, implementation and support of a MLP’s on premise cloud offerings such as containers and development of DevOps style application deployments.


The ideal candidate would have experience supporting and delivering the infrastructure components of applications with a heavy focus on automation. You would invest your own time in learning new technologies and modern methods of delivering infrastructure and applications. Your background is in development or traditional IT and you have a clear sense for how those two functions are merging together in the industry. On a given day, you may be interfacing with development teams to derive requirements and create design proposals, writing code to drive the Desired State Configuration of the environment, troubleshooting a complex performance problem across multiple platforms, and leading technical sessions to influence the organizations approach to technology. You should be used to working in a demanding environment which requires dealing with ambiguity, a high level of operational discipline, and the ability to influence others towards a vision.

Principal Responsibilities/Qualifications

  • Creation of an overarching strategy for establishing a secure and well-managed enterprise environment providing cloud style services
  • Lead design process for container development solutions based on Docker and Kubernetes
  • Collaborate closely with Information Security to build appropriate security controls for containerized applications
  • Merging of our enterprise CentOS and Windows build requirements to support the automated deployment of complete application environments
  • Development of code to drive the automated deployment of application environments
  • Creation and delivery of development focused services on premise that can be consumed via automated methods
  • Establishment of core functions such as patching, lifecycle, capacity and demand management for core services
  • Establish and drive the adoption of development standards around source control, testing, and continuous integration with regards to usage within infrastructure as code
  • Establishment and implementation of monitoring and performance management infrastructure for both availability and performance management
  • Use desired state configuration tools like Chef and Ansible to deliver automated deployments
  • Collaboration with App/Dev teams to further the adoption of a DSC approach to and improve Infrastructure’s understanding of the application space
  • Work closely with other subject matter experts across Linux, Windows, Storage, Network, and Database to delivery on application deployments

 

Qualifications/Skills Required

  • 7+ years of experience as a full time IT professional
  • Candidates must have a minimum of Bachelor's degree (in Computer Science, Math or Engineering)
  • Demonstrable experience deploying enterprise workloads in an automated fashion
  • Optional but highly desired: knowledge of at least one public cloud hosting solution (e.g. AWS, Google, Azure, SoftLayer)
  • Hands-on experience with traditional virtualized services and infrastructure (VMWare, Hyper-V) and managing enterprise on-premise compute implementations
  • Hands-on experience with one or more configuration management systems such as Chef, Ansible, or Puppet
  • Thorough understanding of test driven development practices, CI/CD, and managing infrastructure as code
  • Hands-on experience utilizing infrastructure services via API
  • Proficiency with Python, PowerShell, Perl, Unix shell, or other scripting languages
  • Experience designing and supporting enterprise core services as well as cloud deployments of these services
  • Extensive knowledge of Unix operating systems, especially RHEL/CentOS
  • Working and integration with technology, development, and business teams
  • Business Continuity or Disaster Recovery planning experience a plus
  • Quick learner, Detail oriented; Demonstrable thoroughness and strong ownership of work
  • Excellent team player with a strong willingness to participate and help others
  • Able to prioritize in a fast moving, high pressure, constantly changing environment; High sense of urgency
  • Able to synthesize requirements in an ambiguous environment and translate them into a vision
  • Excellent communication skills
