MP has a simulation-based planning algorithm that uses heuristics to make intelligent decisions to generate a solution, which optimizes train movements and improves railroad operations based on key performance indicators. 
You will be responsible for programming a component, feature and or feature set for the Movement Planner product line.
Essential Responsibilities:You will help improve Movement Planner to move freight faster at a lower cost while using existing rail networks. Work independently and contribute to the immediate team and to other teams across the business. You will build simple solutions to complex problems, with a large number of variables and innumerable combinations, that must be considered and optimized in a small amount of time. You will contribute to and develop designs, working software, automates tests, and participate in product maintenance/support activities. The development environment will center primarily around Linux, C++, Java, Jenkins, Eclipse, and JBoss. 
In this role, you will:
  • Be a scrum team member and define, develop, and evolve software in a fast-paced and Agile development environment 
  • Provide technical leadership to the agile team of 5-7 and deliver commitments as a team. Coach and mentor the team as well as leading by example 
  • Apply principles of SDLC and methodologies like Lean/Agile/XP, CI, Software and Product Security, Scalability, Documentation Practices, refactoring and Testing Techniques 
  • Work on core data structures and algorithms and implement them using technology chosen 
  • Write code that meets standards and delivers desired functionality using the technology selected for the project. Drive world-class quality in the development and support of products 
  • Contribute and support process improvements, which guide the development, sustaining & support activities of the product 
  • Drive increased efficiency across the teams, eliminating duplication, leveraging product and technology reuse 
  • Engage subject matter experts in the successful transfer of complex domain knowledge
  • Work with Product Line Leaders (PLLs) to understand product requirements & vision 
  • Translate requirements/vision into a prioritized list of user stories, with Product Owner, and deliver the implementation to meet required timelines and quality standards 
  • Understand performance parameters, as well as other non-functional requirements, and assess application performance 
  • Work with Product Line Leaders and Architects to develop multi-generation software technology plans 
  • Communicate effectively both within the immediate team, across teams and with business leadership to align activities and deliverables 
  • Proactively share information across the team, to the right audience with the appropriate level of detail and timeliness 
  • Ensure team receives consistent messages and has clear understanding of business direction, strategy and results
Qualifications/Requirements:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science Engineering or with STEM background.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Software Development or Master’s with 3 years of experience in Software Development.

  • Technical Expertise:

  • 3+ years of using front-end technologies (Angular, React, Polymer) to create Single Page Web Applications
  • Knowledge and experience with JavaEE 6 and 7 technology stack
  • Experience developing back end web applications (REST, SOAP, JAX-WS, Web Services)
  • Experience with front-end technologies such as Javascript, HTML5, CSS, Angular, Polymer, Web Components, Typescript
  • Experience with database tools (JPA, Spring Data, Hibernate)
  • Experience writing performant database queries
  • Experience with Automated Test frameworks such as Arquillian, JUnit and Selenium
  • Experience with modern tooling (Eclipse / IntelliJ, Maven, NPM, Gulp, git)
  • Knowledge of Object Oriented Design, Software Design Patterns and Java coding principles
  • Ability to creatively solve complex problems with simple solutions  
    • Strong hands-on programming experience and knowledge of C++, Java or similar high order languages using OOP/OOD and Software Design Patterns software methodologies 
    • Proven delivery and support of software to customers for enterprise level solutions 
    • Experience with rapid prototyping and triaging complex problems with a sense of urgency 
    • Experience with software algorithms, simulation or analytics 
    • Strong understanding and history developing with quality incorporating processes such as Test Driven Development or Behavior Driven Development
    • Experience with Unix/Linux based programming preferred 
    • Certified Scrum Master and/or Product Owner a plus and working knowledge of software Agile development desired 
    • Experience developing software to use databases leveraging database tools (JPA, Hibernate, JDBC, Spring Data) 
    • Working experience with modern tooling (Gradle, Maven, Git)
